If you have never used Audacity directly, however, chances are that you have at least already heard of it. Launched at the very beginning of the century (it does not make us younger), this tool still resides today among the most popular audio recording and editing software and appreciated by non-professional users. Since last year, Audacity has been owned by the Muse group.
Much appreciated for its ease of use, despite its somewhat aging user interface, Audacity is undeniably beginning to show the weight of the years. This is why Muse Group recently decided to deploy a brand new update with a view to giving it a second life. For that, what better than new features?
What’s new for Audacity 3.2?
First, let’s start with one of the coolest features of this update, which is the arrival of non-destructive editing in Audacity. As indicated by the site Engadget, this option allows creators to adjust audio effects without the changes being permanently embedded in the original file. In other words, here is an ideal solution to work without fear of seeing your initial audio file disappear following possible modifications carried out later.
Among the other new features of this 3.2 update, we also find support for plugins in VST3 format as well as the possibility of playing effects in real time. This last feature allows you to listen to your track with the effects applied to the audio without you needing to first render your file. Practice !
Finally, the archaic interface of Audacity, which has indirectly contributed to building its reputation, will benefit from some notable redesigns on the side of the editing bar. We are therefore promised a clearer, more harmonious whole, as well as general ergonomics revised upwards. A new button called “Audio Settings” will be added to provide quicker access to audio input and output settings.
