Audacity, the free and open-source audio editing software, recently reached a major milestone with the release of its version 3.5. The most notable of these is undoubtedly the integration of a cloud backup service, now offering users the possibility of accessing their audio projects from any of their devices.

Saving projects in the cloud comes to Audacity 3.5

Since its creation in 2000, Audacity has established itself as a must-have for audio editing, offering a range of powerful tools accessible to everyone. However, in the age of servers and online storage solutions, saving projects in the cloud has until now remained among the features missing from the software.

Fortunately, version 3.5 aims to fill this gap by integrating, in association with the audio.com platform, an online backup service. Here is what the update note published this Monday, April 22 by Muse Group, owner of Audacity for almost two years, indicates:

“ We’ve introduced a new cloud backup feature that allows you to back up your Audacity projects to audio.com. This allows you to work from any device, share and collaborate with others, and restore previous versions if something goes wrong “.

A free feature, but paid plans

As indicated by our colleagues from MacGeneration, activating this option nevertheless remains optional. Indeed, during a new recording (only the first time), you will be asked whether or not you wish to save your projects in the cloud. To benefit from this, note that you will need to have an account on audio.com. This will allow you to save up to 5 projects to the cloud for free for a maximum of 2 GB.

For those wishing to exceed these limits, a paid plan at $2.99 ​​per month will give you access to an unlimited number of projects for a maximum, this time, of 256 GB. Finally, professional creators will be able to enjoy 2 TB of storage for the monthly sum of $14.99.

Among the other new features of this update, we can also highlight the presence of a function allowing Audacity to “ automatically detect the tempo of imported loops and adjust them to match the tempo “.
