Audi A6 Avant e-tron: the dream electric station wagon?

If the Audi A6 Avant e-tron is only a concept for the moment, the German manufacturer confirms that it will arrive on the roads in 2024 and announces nearly 700 km of autonomy.

The concept of the new Audi A6 Avant e-tron gives a preview of the future electric station wagon from Ingolstad. A preview that will not leave indifferent many lovers of beautiful bodywork with a very suggestive design. The A6 Avant e-tron is a more practical iteration of the A6 e-tron fastback sedan concept unveiled at the 2021 Beijing Motor Show. combustion in 2024.

The car is based on the same Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform of the future Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron, developed jointly with Porsche for its next electric Macan. This platform uses an 800 V electrical architecture which allows fast charging up to 270 kW. The German announces 25 min to go from 5 to 80% on the appropriate terminal, while a 10 min connection could provide an additional autonomy of 280 km.

As for the A6 e-tron concept, the Avant station wagon revealed here is powered by a 100 kWh battery – the precise data is not communicated – which would allow the car to grant a range of almost 700 km in cycle WLTP.

This concept features a twin-motor setup for Quattro all-wheel drive, all delivering a total of 469bhp and most importantly 800Nm of torque. This powertrain will also be offered as standard when the cars are marketed and will make it possible to go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 s. The manufacturer announces that a less powerful and more affordable single-engine version will also be marketed. If the performance will be revised downwards, the autonomy should be further improved.

“We don’t just electrify Avant’s 45-year successful historysays Oliver Hoffmann, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. What we want above all is to use the technical skills to add an exclamation mark. This includes in particular the powerful 800 V technology, a charging capacity of 270 kW and a WLTP range of up to 700 km.”

The styling of the A6 Avant e-tron concept closely follows that of the hatchback version revealed last year, with styling language that foreshadows future electric Audis. At the front, there is a large Singleframe grille incorporating side cooling vents for the motors, battery and brakes. The Audi logo is backlit. If the thinness of the headlights is notable and the muscular sides are reinforced by the presence of 22-inch rims, it is especially the rear that holds the attention with a single strip of lights. On the other hand, it is not certain that the huge rear diffuser will pass the door of production, but here it adds aggressiveness to the whole, perhaps to the detriment of the fluidity of the line.

Like the A6 e-tron concept, this Avant prototype can, when parked, display videos on a wall for passengers to play, for example. Numerous LED projectors around the car also allow signals, messages and light effects to be projected onto the ground, including information on changes of direction. Exterior mirrors are replaced by cameras.

If the new PPE platform will free up interior space, Audi is not currently revealing a photo of the passenger compartment or the trunk. In the same way, the manufacturer does not provide information on the prices, which according to him should be maintained alongside thermal equivalents. Finally, Audi does not exclude an RS version (RennSport, for sports).
