Audi Charging Hub: Luxury e-car charging station with affordable electricity prices

This charging station, known as the “Audi Charging Hub” with an attached lounge, is located at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. The “Hub” is a pilot project and has been available since December 23, 2021. It offers six reservable fast charging points with up to 320 kW charging power, as the Ingolstadt-based company explains. For the Audi E-Tron GT and its maximum 270 kW charging power, this means that this vehicle can charge electricity for a range of up to 100 kilometers in five minutes. The car should be charged from five to 80 percent in 23 minutes. The reservation is made from the MyAudi app.
Intended for residents
The charging stations are especially intended for Audi drivers who do not have a charging facility at home. In contrast to the Tesla superchargers, the “Audi Charging Hub” is primarily intended to charge residents. In addition, the “Audi Charging Hub” should be available for times when a particularly large number of e-cars have to be charged in order to absorb peaks.
Lounge on the first floor
While the E-Audis are charging their batteries, the occupants can also charge their personal batteries. In the lounge on the first floor of the “Audi Charging Hub” with an area of 200 square meters and a 40 square meter terrace.
At the “Audi Charging Hub”, Audi also offers an exchange station for e-bike batteries, a rental service for e-scooters, test drives for Audi E-Tron vehicles and a delivery service for groceries, as well as vending machines and mobile car care.
Structure of the Audi charging hub
The “Audi Charging Hub” consists of several cubes. These are container cubes that can be put together flexibly and set up and dismantled on existing areas in a few days. Each cube has two quick charge points. Used and reconditioned lithium-ion batteries from dismantled development vehicles are used to store electricity. The “Audi Charging Hub” does not have to be connected to a high-voltage line, no transformers are required and it can be set up wherever the power grid is insufficient to supply electric cars. All that is required is a 200 kW power connection to the low-voltage network. Thanks to the existing 2.45 MWh intermediate storage, the 200 kW are sufficient to adequately fill the cubes’ batteries. In addition, photovoltaic modules on the roof can supply up to 30 kW of electricity for the batteries. Audi promises that around 80 e-cars can be charged at the “Audi Charging Hub” in the course of a day.

Anyone who has an E-Tron charging contract can charge at the Audi Charging Hub for currently 31 cents per kilowatt hour – this is actually cheaper and cheaper than charging on Tesla’s superchargers: Tesla’s electricity prices have risen massively – 7 cents more for 1 kWh since October . All other users pay more.

Charging and use of the lounge are possible around the clock. A service employee is also on site between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Who can charge at the Audi Charging Hub?
The “Audi Charging Hub” can also be used to charge non-brand e-cars. The non-Audi drivers are also allowed to use the lounge.
