Audi has unveiled the concept of a new high-end oriented electric station wagon. Baptized A6 Avant E-Tron, which is indeed a concept would however be very close to a series production.

Among the known characteristics of the machine, there is a promising autonomy: the manufacturer promises an endurance of approximately 700 kilometers.

After the sedan, a station wagon concept closer to reality

The announcement is reminiscent of another concept also based on the A6. Almost a year ago, the German firm unveiled this concept based on a new platform developed in partnership with Porsche, claiming that it could already reach 700 kilometers of autonomy.

The Avant E-Tron would therefore be the break version of this sedan, since it is based on this same architecture to equip some of the most imposing future models from Porsche and Audi. That Premium Platform Electric (PPE) is the fourth platform to be made for electric vehicles from Audi. We could see it again soon with the brand’s SUV: the Q6 E-Tron.

But for Audi board member Oliver Hoffmann, this is the “ first truly tangible look at future production models “. The brand goes so far as to speak of a model “ production oriented half-declaring that the car should hit the assembly lines in the near future.

700 kilometers of range, 300 kilometers charged in 10 minutes

Under the hood, it is primarily the question of autonomy that interests. Thanks to the famous PPE architecture, the Avant E-Tron must display approximately 700 kilometers of autonomy according to the WLTP standard, this varying according to the model chosen. In addition, the machine must incorporate an 800-volt system capable of handling a charging power of up to 270 kW, as well as a 100 kWh battery.

For comparison, the Terra 360, the fastest charging station in the world, could deploy up to 360 kW of power. With such a system, the fast charging of this new Audi would be able to restore the equivalent of 300 kilometers of autonomy in 10 minutes.

Once on the road, this new A6 must be able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. Currently, the concept has one block on each axle, the assembly delivering 350kW and 800Nm of torque.

It will be necessary to do without any image and information for the passenger compartment. Only the exterior is known. This station wagon version has a wingspan comparable to those of the already known A6 and A7, with 1.44 meters high and 4.96 meters long. The headlights will be Digital Matrix LED intelligent: they must perform other functions, such as warning cyclists and pedestrians that a door is about to open.
