Today, Tuesday April 19, the German Audi unveiled its new model: Urbansphere.

A concept that succeeds the Skysphere and Grandsphere, which is intended to be designed for the needs of customers in large megalopolises.

After Skypsphere and Grandsphere, here is Urbansphere

As expected, Audi has made it official today, through a virtual event called Celebration of Progress, its new Urbansphere concept. According to the ring builder, “ the Sphere family of concept cars offers a look into the future of Audi design and illustrates how the brand is defining the premium mobility of the future “.

A new model developed in close collaboration with Audi’s design studios in Beijing, and which is the first car from the German manufacturer to reflect the wishes and experiences of its many Chinese customers.

The largest of the Sphere concepts

The result is a new vehicle that literally acts as a living room on wheels, the latter being the largest model in the range, at 5.51 m long, for a wheelbase of 3.40 m. For Audi, it’s about recreating a ” private sphere on board this new vehicle, for the driver as well as for the passengers. Despite its size, the Audi Urbansphere incorporates four individual seats, spread over two rows, with Relax and Entertain modes in the rear.

Passengers can turn face to face thanks to the swivel seats, or on the contrary, benefit from a private space via a “privacy screen”. Each seat also has its own sound zone incorporating loudspeakers in the headrest area, without forgetting of course the individual monitors integrated into the back of the front seats.

A large OLED screen is also included, the latter being able to swivel vertically from the roof area to the area between the rows of seats to enjoy multimedia content together. And when the screen is not in use, it offers an unobstructed view forward thanks to its transparent design, or to the sky if it is folded towards the roof.

As for autonomy, in addition to driving, Audi says the vehicle also handles day-to-day tasks, such as making dinner reservations or shopping online from the car.

In addition, the Audi Urbansphere autonomous concept car picks up its passengers at home and takes care, again completely autonomously, of finding a parking space and recharging the battery.

An autonomous, electric and durable model

On the sustainability side, Audi says that many of the materials used inside the Audi Urbansphere concept, such as the varnished hornbeam, come from sustainable sources, and without any chemical treatment. The seat upholstery is made of ECONYL, the fabric made of viscose from bamboo.

An Audi Urbansphere designed from the PPE platform (for Premium Platform Electric), with a 120 kWh battery module arranged between the axles. For their part, the two electric motors of the Audi Urbansphere concept are able to provide a total power of 295 kW, and a system torque of 690 Nm, to the very wide 24 “wheels.

There is also 800-volt charging technology, the ability to charge up to 270 kW at fast charging stations. According to Audi, 10 minutes is enough to recharge the battery to a level sufficient to cover more than 300 km. On the autonomy side, Audi promises around 750 km on a single charge.

Obviously, like the previous Sphere concepts, this new Urbansphere model is a prototype, essentially aiming to propose a radical vision of the future of our movements.
