“Les Vieux fourneaux” conquers Netflix! The comedy with Pierre Richard and Eddy Mitchell is second in the platform’s top films this week.
Netflix subscribers are enjoying Les Vieux fourneaux, the comedy starring Pierre Richard, Eddy Mitchell and Roland Giraud, to the point of placing it 2nd in the ranking of the most watched films on the platform!
Three 70-year-old friends, Pierrot, Mimile and Antoine, meet up for the funeral of Lucette, Antoine’s wife. But when the latter finds a letter quite by chance, he leaves without saying anything for Tuscany! His daughter Sophie, pregnant, decides to go after him with her two childhood friends…

Directed by Christophe Duthuron, Les Vieux fourneaux is adapted from the comic strip of the same name by Wilfrid Lupano and Paul Cauuet. A great success when it was released in 2018 (939,040 admissions), this year it found a second life on Netflix.
With an average rating of 3.1 out of 5 on AlloCiné, the film nevertheless has its defenders and its detractors:
“Simply an excellent moment of cinema” writes Julien F. “Christophe Duthuron knew how to perfectly respect and adapt the comic strip, adding a sensitivity that takes us from laughter to tears. We find at times dialogues like “Audiard”, which adds to the pleasure. A French film of very good cinema.”

Should I see Him? find him “the rhythm is quite balanced (…). Certain passages like the flashbacks are a little more worked and that looks pretty good, it helps to release emotion. Because yes, in addition to being funny I found this film quite touching: we take a liking to these three little old people and their story which turns out to be moving.”
Obviously, other opinions are more mixed, like Greg.38 who indicates that “it’s an entertaining film with a little grain of madness which is nice to watch but which doesn’t make it a great film”, where FaRem is more severe and judges that “it’s never funny, the clichés are numerous, the dialogues sound false and the rhythm is inconsistent”.
