Microsoft partners with Snap to offer a multitude of new augmented reality-based features in its application Skype. The new features are now available on iOS and Android.
Far from being forgotten by everyone, Skype is still holding up in 2024. After having benefited from a well-deserved facelift two years earlier, and having given users the possibility of reacting more effectively to messages from their interlocutors, the software dedicated to telephone and video calls is now enhanced with a touch of modernity on mobile thanks to augmented reality.
After Teams, Skype in turn adopts augmented reality
Via a blog post, the Redmond firm has officially announced “ the launch of a new camera with dozens of attractive and fun lenses, powered by Snap’s augmented reality (AR) technology “. Not surprisingly, these famous AR lenses will allow you to express yourself differently in Skype, as Microsoft tells us in its publication:
“ With Snap-powered AR lenses, you can transform yourself with a shimmering beard, go retro with disco glasses, or just show off your [amour] with a rain of [cœurs]. Goals make talking with family and friends more fun and enjoyable. This simple, lightweight, story-telling camera is now available to let you create and share a photo or video right in the app with your loved ones “.
How to use Skype Lenses on iOS and Android?
For those who would like to try this new feature in Skype, know that it has just been deployed by Microsoft on iOS and Android devices. Besides, here is how to use the augmented reality lenses from the application:
- Open the Skype app on your Android or iOS device. Select a contact you want to chat with or open an existing conversation. Click on the camera icon at the bottom right of your screen.
- Select the smiley face icon to the right of the capture button to see all the lenses available in Skype.
- Once you find one you want to use, click the check mark at the bottom right of the screen. Press and hold the capture button to record a video of yourself with the lens. Once recorded, tap the image of your recording to review and make any changes you want to your video.
- If you’re happy with what’s recorded, select the send icon at the bottom right of the screen (if you’re not, you can do another take and record again).
- Your video will appear in the chat. Hit the send button and your Lens video will be on its way to your contact.
