Australia: Justice rejects Novak Djokovic’s appeal, the player will be expelled


An Australian court on Sunday upheld the government’s decision to revoke Novak Djokovic’s visa, ending the unvaccinated tennis superstar’s hopes of winning the Australian Open.

The Australian Federal Court on Sunday unanimously rejected the appeal brought by world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic against the cancellation of his visa and his expulsion from the country.

The Australian court has upheld the government’s decision to revoke Novak Djokovic’s visa, ending the unvaccinated world No.1’s hopes of playing the Australian Open and racking up a record 21 Grand Slam titles.

In a case that rocked Australia and the sporting world for more than a week, three Federal Court judges heard arguments from government lawyers that Djokovic’s continued presence risked stoking anti-vaccination sentiment during Australia’s worst Covid-19 outbreak since the pandemic began.

A medical exemption allowing world number one Serbian to enter the country without being vaccinated sparked fury in Australia, and became a political issue for Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who is due to call a federal election before May .
