Australian Open: Tournament director reveals Djokovic won with three centimeter tear in hamstring

Australian Open boss Craig Tiley claims the Serb played (and won) the Australian Grand Slam with a three centimeter tear in his left hamstring.

After the tenth coronation in Melbourne of his (brilliant) student, Goran Ivanisevic was ecstatic: “97% of the players, given the MRI on Saturday before the start of the tournament, would have gone directly to the referee’s office to forfeit. But not him, commented the former Croatian player. Novak comes from elsewhere, his brain works differently (…) He is incredible.“.

The facts prove the Croatian coach of the king of the Australian Open right. Craig Tiley, the boss of Tennis Australia, did not hide his admiration for the Serb who would have played this Grand Slam with a 3 centimeter tear in his hamstring.

That’s what he says about Sportsday. “It’s hard to believe anyone can do what they do with that kind of injury, but he’s amazing. Much of the criticism of Novak has to do with the fact that he has a bad reputation. Ultimately, I don’t think anyone can question his athletic abilities. He had a three centimeter tear in his thigh. I saw the scans, the doctors don’t lie. He’s so focused on everything he does, every minute of the day. When he eats, when he drinks, he knows exactly what he is doing. There is no failure or mental failure in anything he does. He went through a lot and I don’t think anyone else will win this tournament 10 times. He will go down in Australian Open history “.

With Djokovic, the impossible is always possible. The native of Belgrade had already won the Australian Open 2021 with an abdominal tear assessed… at 2.5cm at the end of the fortnight.
