Covid infection numbers are skyrocketing in the Australian state of New South Wales. While new infections in Sydney were still in the low single-digit range in the first half of June, 820 new cases were reported on Saturday.
Security forces patrol the streets to ensure that quarantine is respected. A 27-year-old did not adhere to this. Now the police are publicly searching for Anthony Karam with photos. He is wanted by an arrest warrant because he apparently tested positive for Covid-19 and failed to isolate himself.
Published photos show the young man looking straight into the camera. In other photos, Karam checks his own reflection in an elevator.
“Example of the worst of the worst”
According to Kerry Chant, the New South Wales Minister of Health, Karam poses a threat to the health and safety of the public: “People are warned to avoid and not approach Mr. Karam,” Chant said in a statement . Karam “was diagnosed with Covid-19 and is contagious”
Australian Health Minister Brad Hazzard (69) also reported: “This 27-year-old guy, who apparently takes the view that he doesn’t care whether he spreads the virus, is an example of the worst of the worst.”
Anyone who sees Karam, one of those Notification of the police, should not approach him, but alert the emergency call immediately. The police also have one «Covid-Fighting Crime» website set up. People are asked to report if they “have information about people or companies that are or could be violating the current Covid-19 health ordinance”. (kes)
