Murau, Graz, Hartberg – and now also Fehring (Southeast Styria): The authorities are increasingly uncovering illegal “Corona schools” in which several children are mostly taken under their wing by virus deniers. Motto: German, math and English in your own apartment instead of in the classroom!
As the “Steirerkrone” found out, boys and girls in Fehring with school bags on their backs were seen entering a private apartment and only leaving it after a few hours. The District Commission of Southeast Styria has already been informed, and the local school authority has also been involved.
The problem: As long as the alleged teachers claim that the little ones are only “on visit” and are turned away by inspectors at the front door, those responsible cannot do anything about the unauthorized goings-on.
1.3 percent of children in home school
In any case, there is a lot of anger about this “parallel school system” in Styria: “Unfortunately, we are seeing a tendency to de-register from lessons,” says Education Councilor Juliane Bogner-Strauss, “currently 1.3 percent of school-age children are in home lessons”.
School lessons are always also social and emotional learning, warns the ÖVP politician: “A society depends on how children experience society in order to become part of it. It is therefore all the more important for children to take part in school lessons and spend time with their peers. “
