Autistic, he has a panic attack in the canteen and the result is appalling

In Lyon, an autistic child was excluded from the canteen of his school, after having a crisis that his establishment could not manage. He justified his decision by arguing a lack of staff, before finally finding a solution.

A surprising decision. In Lyon, Olivier, a young boy withautism was forbidden to eat at the canteen of his schoolreports France 3. Aged 10, he is educated in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon and is usually accompanied by a referent teacher as part of his support in the Ulis class (Localized unit for inclusive education).

But at the end of November, his supervisor was absent, and the schoolboy got carried away by a panic attack that his establishment could not manage. He had then been excluded for a “an indefinite period” of the canteen, the school pointing the lack of qualified personnel to supervise the child during the lunch break. Indeed, due to the shortage of accompanying persons for students with disabilities (AESH), Olivier was no longer assisted by a specially trained supervisor to meet his needs during the lunch break.

A solution finally found

The young boy had since forced to eat out every lunchtime, with his mother. The latter was traveling two hours round trip to bring him a sandwich and not leave him alone. But this Monday, December 5, a solution was finally found.

“A new AESH has been recruited, he will intervene on extracurricular time starting tomorrow [mardi]”, indicated the City, which calls however to “closer cooperation with the State on the status and funding of AESH”. “This situation reveals the difficulties encountered by local authorities concerning care professions since the differentiation of support between school and extracurricular time. The municipalities now find themselves on the front line, to ensure the best possible public service for the inhabitants.she also assures.
