Guest of the morning of Europe 1, Julien Bayou, the national secretary of Europe Ecology Les Verts and deputy for Paris, returned to his latest bill in the National Assembly. He wants recycled frying oil to be used as biofuel to help the French face rising fuel prices.
This is one of the measures taken by the Nupes to the National Assembly, validated by the hemicycle. Faced with the drastic rise in fuel prices, MPs voted on July 22 to allow recycled frying oil to be used as biofuel. “In France, we don’t have oil, but frying oil”, jokes Julien Bayou, the national secretary of EELV this Monday morning on Europe 1.
An oil that “costs much less”
Julien Bayou explains that “for diesels, you can put up to 30% frying oil when it is well filtered”. A measure favorable to the purchasing power of the French, because it “can cost much less, since it is recovery”. This amendment must serve to “be less dependent on oil monarchies to reduce energy dependence on all these fuels”, adds the deputy from Paris.
An ecological argument?
According to the MP’s arguments, ten liters of properly reprocessed waste oil “can yield eight liters of fuel, which emits up to 90% less greenhouse gases than conventional diesel”. For the moment, such a practice is prohibited in France, because only fuels approved and listed in the customs code are authorized.
But with this vote, Julien Bayou also hopes to reduce pollution: “Only 25% of these oils are recycled and unfortunately that creates pollution when it goes into the pipes and it ends up clogging them and making the cost of wastewater treatment”, he explains on Europe 1.
