Autumn trips: These are the places where we get some fresh air

When it becomes too tight for us in our own apartment, it is high time for an excursion into nature. Here are three tips for charging the battery.

When it gets cooler and the wind whistles around the corners, many just want to curl up comfortably on the couch with a cup of tea in hand and a hot water bottle. But autumn has a lot in store for day trippers. In these places the golden autumn is on the agenda.

Excursion to the Wetterstein Mountains

Fancy a bit of sea flair in front of the Alps? Then the Eibsee in the Wetterstein Mountains is just right for you. Due to its fantastic location below the Zugspitze and the clear, green shimmering water, it is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Bavarian Alps. For most of them it should be too cold to bathe. However, nothing speaks against a short hike around the lake. The Eibsee circular route takes about two hours and is also suitable for families with children. The view of the Zugspitze, towering 2,000 meters above the lake, is particularly impressive.

The Moselle: between vineyards and castles

If you are in the mood for something different, you should try a detour to the Moselle. 544 kilometers long, it rises in the French Vosges and flows into the Rhine near Koblenz. In between, vacationers come across vineyards, fairytale castles and fortresses as well as medieval towns. A highlight is certainly Eltz Castle in the Wierschem community. It is surrounded by a picturesque forest that now turns orange and red in autumn – Indian Summer in German!

In addition, the grape harvest is currently in full swing. The grape harvest for Riesling begins around October. Many wineries in the area offer wine tastings. There is a large selection: Müller-Thurgau, Elbling, Kerner, Bacchus, Dornfelder, Blauer Spätburgunder and Weißer Burgunder should have something for every palate.

At lofty heights at Lichtenstein Castle

At Lichtenstein Castle in Baden-Württemberg there is both adventure and fairytale atmosphere. The castle itself was only built in 1840, but scores with its spectacular location. It towers around 800 meters above the now colorful treetops of the Swabian Alb on a rocky slope. Those who can walk well start from the community of Sonnenbühl and climb up to the castle for around two hours. Lichtenstein Castle can be visited taking into account the hygiene and distance rules for Corona. If you still have energy left, you can go to the adjoining climbing park at lofty heights.
