Available on Netflix: rated 4.1 out of 5, this alien film has reinvented the genre and it will captivate you

One of the greatest hits of the year 2022, “NOPE” by Jordan Peele, arrives on the Netflix platform. Absolutely (re)see.

In the middle of the Californian desert, a farm, that of the Haywoods. This is where horses are bred for the cinema. When the owner of the place is fatally hit by an object falling from the sky, his two children, Otis and Emerald, wonder.

What could have killed their father? The answer lies behind a cloud. An alien saucer is hiding there, observing them and preparing to attack.

At first glance, Nope, Jordan Peele’s third feature film, is a classic sci-fi film in the vein of Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

It’s a bad idea to know the director of Get Out and Us who doesn’t do anything like the others. And the spectators understand this from the opening scene where the set of a sitcom is transformed into a crime scene by an out-of-control star chimpanzee.

The rest goes from surprise to surprise. A strange amusement park, a ship that sucks in human beings, rains of blood that fall on a house… Funny, frightening and surprising, Nope is a film of infinite richness.

A true homage to the science fiction works of the 1950s, it also offers a reflection on the art of entertainment and the extreme thirst for great spectacle to seduce the masses.

Among the notable elements, we will remember this alien with a crazy design, which should delight fans of the genre, but also the performance of the two main actors: Daniel Kaluuya – already the hero of Get Out – and Keke Palmer, the revelation of the film.

With Nope, Jordan Peele confirms his status as a unique filmmaker who shines in an industry where everything ends up looking the same.

NOPE is available on Netflix.
