Viruses as tough and malicious as ransomware rise again after a small semester of decline.

Because the consequences of ransomware can be particularly serious on the professional side, Avast now offers an additional layer of protection against this type of attack.

Avast responds to the return to the forefront of ransomware

The Czech firm Avast, one of the world’s leading players in the field of cybersecurity, now offers a new layer of protection for professionals who opt for its services, both on macOS and on Windows. And this one, called “Ransomware Shield”, aims to further increase the capacity of prevention against a ransomware attack, but also the preservation of data for its business customers.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, ransomware-type attacks have exploded a little more each year, with double-digit increases. While the last quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 brought a welcome lull, hackers are having fun again, with attacks up 24% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the previous one.

A veritable arsenal is now available from Avast

Although they are of course terrible for individuals, ransomware is a particularly dangerous virus for professionals because the ransoms demanded to recover stolen data, for example, are increased tenfold. SMBs are not left out, because as explained by Avast Vice President of Product, Filip Hlinka, ” Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting small businesses, including encrypting their crucial business data and disrupting their operations. The results can be all the more devastating from such structures that lack the financial and technical resources to bounce back from such attacks. “.

The question of the budget allocated to cybersecurity becomes an even more poignant issue, knowing that several employers have already sounded the alarm about the security breaches caused by the proliferation of telework over the past two years. Moreover, these ransomware do not only affect the private sector, since the public sector (including in France with the example of the hospital in Ajaccio), is also affected.

With the now “Behavior Shield”, “File Shield” and “Web Shield”, the “Ransomware Shield” completes the many shields offered by Avast to best protect against online threats. Moreover, it is a question of preventing the data of the targeted structures from being blocked, encrypted, modified or even deleted by ransomware.
