Avatar 2 at home? James Cameron’s message to those who choose not to go to the cinema

Since its theatrical release on December 14, Avatar: The Way of the Water, the second opus in the famous saga initiated by James Cameron in 2009, has already gathered tens of millions of spectators in cinemas around the world, and has raised more than two billion dollars.

Whether you choose to see it in 3D, IMAX, HFR or ICE, one thing is certain: this new Avatar deserves to be discovered in a dark room. But once the film is pulled from theaters, when it becomes available in physical media or digitally in a few months, another question might arise: will the experience still measure up on a TV screen?

Recently polled by the site NPRthe filmmaker gave his opinion on the subject, and took the opportunity to send a short message to his viewers:

“If you watch The Way of the Water at home, on a big enough TV screen, with a decent sound system, and if you’re seated close enough and in the right way, the experience will be good”began by declaring Cameron, before adding some important details.

“I think when you start watching something on a phone, you sort of miss the mark. When you go to the cinema, it’s not so much the size of the screen or the perfection that matters. of the sound system. But more the decision that you make not to do multiple things at the same time. I think that’s the key aspect that people don’t see.”

James Cameron continues his speech by explaining that the most important thing, even beyond the conditions in which we will watch a film, is the personal approach that we will have vis-à-vis this film:

“[Au cinéma,] you make a bargain between yourself and a work of art, to devote your full attention to it. And that’s not the case when you’re at home. People won’t cry as much when they watch a movie at home as they do in a movie theater. You don’t have the deep emotion.”
