  • In December 2022 the big “Avatar” sequel wave will begin.
  • In “Avatar: The Way of Water”, the second Pandora adventure, we meet new tribes, as the new trailer shows.
  • After that, three more “Avatar” films are planned.

It’s now 13 years since “Avatar: The Adventures of Pandora” was released in cinemas, triggering a 3D boom that lasted several years. James Cameron’s sci-fi story quickly became the highest-grossing film of all time. A sequel was only a matter of time.

The fact that it ultimately took so long for “Avatar: The Way of Water” to be released was mainly due to Cameron’s ambitious plans. There shouldn’t be just one sequel, but four at once, with parts 2 and 3 being shot in one go and of course looking absolutely spectacular again.

As time went on, the longing for a reunion with Jake Sully and Neytiri seemed to diminish more and more. Certainly also because the large 3D images have been forgotten and “Avatar” has to live on the television at home not only from its visual values, but also from its story, whose parallels to “Pocahontas” or “Dances with Wolves” are often criticized became.

That’s also why Disney+ canceled the film to make the recent theatrical release of the first film in 3D even more interesting. With “Avatar: The Way of Water” the technology is of course even more sophisticated and the pictures are even more impressive, as the new trailer shows.

Fans of the first film can look forward to the return of deceased characters like Dr. Grace Augustine or Col. Miles Quaritch, who now walk around Pandora themselves as avatars. Quaritch is said to remain the main villain for all upcoming “Avatar” films.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” will start in German cinemas on December 14, 2022, and the third film will continue in 2024. Parts 4 and 5 are also to follow at intervals of two years, but it is doubtful whether James Cameron will make it in time.
