We are at the end of Avatar: The Way of the Water, in theaters since December 14. After a merciless confrontation against the Na’vi, Colonel Quaritch’s recombinant was left for dead by Jake Sully. While the GDR station takes on water from all sides, the soldier sinks to the bottom of the ocean, lifeless.

It is then that Spider, his “son” born from the original Quaritch, decides to come to his aid and bring him back to solid ground, despite all the crimes that the soldier has committed against the inhabitants of Pandora. An unexpected decision, which has sometimes confused some spectators.

At the microphone of the Hollywood Reporter, comedian Jack Champion, who lends his features to Spider, gave his interpretation of the scene:

“I think it’s because at that time he had already spent several months with Quaritch”he explained.

Walt Disney Company

“So they built this father-son relationship. And Quaritch just saved his life against Neytiri. So at that moment he was like, ‘I’m not going to join him. I’m absolutely sure I’m not going to that, but I can’t let him die. It’s exactly like murdering him.’ So it’s a whole set of things.”

Still in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter, the young actor also took the opportunity to teaser the third installment of the saga, expected for December 16, 2024 and which already looks amazing:

“I was really overwhelmed by [Avatar 3]. It takes a 180 degree turn, which isn’t a bad thing. You think you know where it’s going to go, and then it’s all shattered. So you’re like, ‘I never thought this could happen.'”
