This is one of the surprise images from the long-awaited trailer for Avatar: The Way of the Water… Who is this human that we can see between Jake Sully and Neytiri? Where is he from ?
Several days after its exclusive presentation in cinemas, before the screening of Doctor Strange 2, the trailer for Avatar 2 has finally been unveiled online. The opportunity to see (or see again) these first event images of a film that has been postponed several times, making the expectation even stronger.
As announced, it is the oceans of the exotic Pandora that are in the spotlight of this second episode. The first images of James Cameron’s blockbuster therefore take the viewer to the lush planet whose waters the Na’vi have now colonized.
Almost without words, the trailer of less than two minutes reveals nothing of the plot of Avatar 2 but nevertheless gives an idea of the atmosphere of the feature film by showing the heroes Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri ( Zoe Saldana) with their children. And surprise, among them, a young human having to wear a mask to live alongside them.

Where is he from ? What do we know of him?
Let’s first situate the family: Jake and Neytiri are parents of three boys, Neteyam, Lo’ak and Spider, and a girl, Tuktirey. Three of these children are Na’vi, with blue skin, but Spider has the appearance of a human, therefore of a different origin than his parents.
As specified ScreenRant, Spider is not the biological child of Jake and Neytiri. From his real name Miles Socorro, Spider (played by Jack Champion) was born on the military base installed on Pandora, and was adopted by Jake and Neytiri. Some time ago, producer Jon Landau explained about him: “Jake took him but Neytiri always saw him as one of the people who destroyed his house and killed his father. (…) You have all these dynamics in play“.
In Empire, the latter explained: Miles Socorro was too young, too small and too weak to make the trip to Earth after the liberation of Pandora in the Battle of Avatar. Jake volunteered to adopt Miles, nicknamed Spider (the spider) for his agility, to become his full son, and he has since been raised by the entire Sully family.
In the unveiled trailer, we see Spider furtively running next to his parents. What place will he occupy at the heart of the new plot?
The pitch of this sequel is as follows: Jake Sully and Neytiri have become parents. The plot takes place ten years after the events told in the original feature film. Their idyllic life, close to nature, is threatened when the Resources Development Administration, a dangerous non-governmental organization, returns to Pandora. Forced to leave their natural habitat, Jake and his family travel to the reefs, where they believe they will find asylum. But they come across a clan, the Metkayina, with customs different from theirs…
A feature film that promises a great show, but also a lot of suspense around its plot. Avatar: The Way of the Water will be released in cinemas in France on December 14, 2022.
