Good news ! His return has been confirmed by director James Cameron himself, as reported Deadline. During an interview with People magazine, he indicated that she would play the character of Ronal again. If her role was quite brief in Avatar The Way of Water, Cameron implies here that we could see Kate Winslet a little more in episode 3.
The director indicates that she “went to school” with a real shaman for the needs of Avatar 3, which will arrive in theaters on December 17, 2025. Last June, Disney decided to postpone the release dates of all suites.
Thus, this 3rd episode, which was supposed to arrive on December 18, 2024, will be released a year later than planned, i.e. 3 years after Avatar 2. As for Avatar 4, supposed to be released on December 16, 2026, it was delayed by 3 years! The new date is December 2029.
The 5th opus, initially scheduled for December 20, 2028, has also been postponed. The outcome of the saga will be visible on screens in December 2031!
Released in theaters on December 14, 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water triumphed at the global box office, collecting $2.3 billion. In France, 14.2 million spectators rushed to theaters.
WHO WILL PLAY IN AVATAR 3?
The main heroes of the saga will be there: Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana. The big bad Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, will also be there.
Jake Neytiri’s children will also return, except Neteyam, who died in The Way of Water. Thus, Britain Dalton (Lo’ak), Trinity Jo-Li Bliss (Tuk), Sigourney Weaver (Kiri) and Jack Champion (Spider) will be back.
Michelle Yeoh, Oscar winner for Everything Everywhere all at Once, also joins the Avatar family in the costume of scientist Karine Mogue.
For his part, David Thewlis, well known to the public for having played Remus Lupine in the Harry Potter saga, will play a Na’vi named Peylak. As for Varang, the leader of the tribe of ashes, she will be played by actress Oona Chaplin.
AVATAR 3, WHAT WILL IT BE ABOUT?
After The Way of Water, the subtitle of Avatar 3 should be “The Seed Bearer”. The work, already shot, is currently in post-production. Little information is circulating on the specific plot of this 3rd iteration but James Cameron and producer Jon Landau have indulged in a few little secrets on the subject.
In Avatar 3, the people of ashes will be revealed: they will be a Na’vi ethnic group that is not really benevolent, unlike the Metkayina and Omatikaya, whom we already know. They will be the villains of this new adventure.
“There are good humans and bad humans. It’s the same on the Na’vi side. People often don’t see themselves as bad and it will be the same for Avatar 3. What is the root cause of their evolution? Why have they shifted towards what we perceive as bad? There will be factors that we are not aware of that will need to be taken into account.”explained producer Jon Landau.
Based on the events that took place in The Way of Water, and depending on the way in which this second opus ended, it is now possible to venture some predictions.
We can therefore assume that Kiri, the daughter of Grace (also played by Sigourney Weaver) will become one of the central characters of the saga. Born in a completely unexplained way, and singularly sensitive to the spirit of Eywa (the divinity of the Na’vi), she is undoubtedly destined for a particular destiny.
Perhaps she will be the one to restore balance to Pandora and who – why not? – will replant the House Tree, destroyed by the Earthlings at the end of the first part (which would be consistent with the title of this third film). As for Lo’ak, the second son of Jake and Neytiri, we can very well imagine that he will continue to follow “the Way of Water”.
He will undoubtedly become a major figure in the Metkayina clan, and the main character of the fourth film, currently being filmed, and whose title can already constitute a serious clue: Avatar: The Tulkun Rider. .
Finally, like his father Colonel Quaritch, it is a safe bet that Spider will become the main antagonist of the saga, and very probably a complex and ambiguous character. Torn between his adoptive Na’vi family and his biological origins, we can imagine him oscillating between the light and the dark side, like Kylo Ren in the Star Wars saga.
