The series "Avatar – The Last Airbender" is getting a new edition on Netflix. But the creators of the original are no longer involved.
The fans have been in great anticipation since Netflix announced a new edition of the animated hit "Avatar – The Lord of the Elements" (2005-2008) as a live series. The original creators Michael Dante DiMartino (46) and Bryan Konietzko (45) were brought on board for the implementation. But the creative duo now announced the surprising end.
Different ideas about the "creative direction"
The "creative direction" that the streaming service wanted to take would not have been right, so DiMartino. The producer and screenwriter wrote on his blog using a set from "Avatar – The Lord of the Elements": "In June of this year, Bryan Konietzko and I made the difficult decision to leave the production after two years of development work."
DiMartino made it clear where the difficulties began for him: "In the announcement for the series, Netflix stated that they would undertake to honor our vision for this retelling and to support us in the implementation of the series. (…) Unfortunately It didn't go as we'd hoped. "
Clear swipe at Netflix
His colleague Bryan Konietzko supported him via Instagram, where he wrote, among other things, that the general handling of the project had taken place in a negative and unsupportive atmosphere.
Clear swipe at the streaming service. Netflix could have landed a crowd puller with an "Avatar" real series. The cartoon forerunner "Avatar – The Lord of the Elements" – although already 15 years old – is one of the long-running hits on the streaming platform. The US company will probably continue the project without the duo.
