Announced almost a year ago, legs are starting to appear on Horizon Worlds user avatars…but with some limitations.

Almost two years since Facebook, the company behind the social network of the same name, became Meta, and turned to the metaverse. Unfortunately for Mark Zuckerberg, we cannot say that this new project has been successful.

The finally promised legs arrive on Meta avatars

The metaverse has never thrilled the crowds, and after a few weeks of hype media, the soufflé quickly fell. Brands quickly put the brakes on their dedicated metaverse projects, and there are only a few tens of thousands of regular users left who visit Horizon Worlds, Meta’s virtual reality experience.

Not enough to discourage Mark Zuckerberg who, although Meta’s efforts in favor of artificial intelligence are now more important, continues to improve his metaverse in small steps.

Almost a year ago, in a widely doctored video, the founder of Facebook announced that avatars would finally have the right to legs and feet, whereas they had been deprived of them until then. We had to wait many months, but this update has finally made its appearance.

An integration to the shoehorn, and very basic

It is the latest beta version of Horizon Worlds that allows us to discover its new avatars finally complete, but there are still several limitations present.

To see the legs of his avatar, it will be necessary to pass in front of a mirror in the virtual experience. If you lower your head, your legs and feet still respond desperately to absent subscribers. It is still possible to see the legs of the avatars around you.

Virtual legs also have no animation when an avatar bends their legs while sitting or crouching, even in third person view.

Meta said that users still active on Horizon Worlds won’t have to wait long to check out their new legs, and the update will hit the public release in a few weeks.

We can also expect new information on the evolution of avatars and the metaverse on September 27, 2023, on the occasion of the new edition of the Meta Connect conference. Meta’s next virtual reality headset, the Meta Quest 3 will also be featured in detail by Mark Zuckerberg, despite the fact that a copy is already in the wild.
