Avian influenza: 144 sources of contamination identified in the Landes

The virus continues to spread in the Landes. The areas affected by preventive felling are expanding accordingly. In total, 144 farms were contaminated, as of Monday January 17

The number is growing day by day. Monday evening, January 17, the authorities counted a total of 144 outbreaks of avian influenza since the start of the epizootic. Authorities confirmed 34 over the weekend.

Currently, 99 municipalities in the Landes are located in a protection zone. They are therefore concerned by preventive felling. All their poultry and duck farms located within a perimeter of 3 kilometers around the outbreaks are emptied, their animals euthanized.

Suspicion in Hontanx

A large proportion of poultry and waterfowl farming in the Landes is now concerned. This perimeter extends over the whole of Tursan, in the south-east of the department, and almost all of Chalosse, as far as Monfort-en-Chalosse and Pomarez. The protection zone approaches the town of Mont-de-Marsan from the west (Meilhan and Carcarès-Sainte-Croix). Around Dax, contamination has been identified in Saint-Geours-de-Maremne or Rivière-Saas-et-Gourby.

In recent days, a doubt hangs over an operation of Hontanx. The prefecture has taken measures to drastically reduce the movement of animals in an area including Arthez-d’Armagnac, Montégut and Villeneuve-de-Marsan.
