So far, AVM has only released a mid-range model with Wifi 6 (WLAN-ax) for cable connections: the FritzBox 6660 Cable. Now the top model follows: The FritzBox 6690 Cable also has the new WLAN standard on the box and is now available in stores. It has more antennas than the 6660 and theoretically reaches up to 6,000 megabits per second (Mbps) – 4,800 Mbps in the 5 gigahertz frequency and 1,200 Mbps in the 2.4 gigahertz frequency band. On upgraded gigabit cable connections with DOCSIS 3.1 technology, the FritzBox 6690 creates an Internet speed of up to 6,000 Mbps in the downstream and 2,000 Mbps in the upstream. On paper, it is significantly faster than is currently possible with a cable connection – tariffs for private customers are available with a maximum of 1,000 Mbps.

FritzBox 6690 Cable: Lush features
As you know from many Fritz boxes, the 6690 Cable has a telephone system including an integrated answering machine. The 6690 has four LAN ports (1x 2,500 Mbps and 3x 1,000 Mbps) as well as two USB 3.0 ports for storage media and printers. It masters both the familiar smart home functions and WiFi mesh – the latter improves WiFi management so that devices are always optimally connected.
