  3. Current FritzBox models at a glance

  4. Mesh network, NAS, comfort functions

When choosing the right FritzBox, it primarily depends on how you access the Internet. Do you have a DSL connection via the telephone socket? Is your Internet access delivered by cable or fiber optics? Or is neither the case and you want to access the Internet via mobile communications?

AVM offers the right model series for every approach. Before you buy, you have to make sure that the router fits your connection. You can usually tell this from the model designations. Devices for cable connections are labeled “Cable” and fiber optics “Fiber” – however, with the FritzBox 5491 and FritzBox 5490 there are two older fiber optic routers without the suffix.

You can recognize routers for mobile phone access by “LTE” or “5G”. With the FritzBox 6890 LTE, there is also a hybrid device that can be used for DSL and mobile communications. Depending on the reception, the fastest access is always used. There is no additional designation for devices for regular DSL connections via a telephone socket.

Modem or router or both?

It should also be noted that AVM also Routers without an integrated modem offers. What does that mean? Today, most devices are routers and modems at the same time. A modem provides access to the Internet, a router connects devices via WLAN or LAN.

Do you use a classic modem that is connected to your PC via a LAN cable? Then you can switch a pure router behind it, which opens a WLAN or LAN network for your devices. Corresponding devices from AVM are available for well under 100 euros.
