Avowed stuck at 30 fps on Xbox Series X and S, “it’s a first-person single-player game” justifies Obsidian

Obsidian Entertainment is currently developing Avowedlong expected in 2024 but finally pushed back to the beginning of next year. The studio, specialized in role-playing games, made the trip to Cologne for the gamescom 2024revealing information that made the players jump.

During an interview with Iron Lordsartistic director Matt Hansen revealed thatAvowed will be locked to 30fps on Xbox Series X|S. For a game designed for the last generation of consoles, this is still a disappointment. There is obviously a reason behind this choice, Obsidian specifies thatAvowed will feature a bunch of very demanding special effects and lighting, the choice of 30 fps was made quickly during development and at least the title is stable with this framerate. Matt Hansen still added a little sentence that caused debate:

It’s a single player, first person game, you don’t necessarily need 60 frames (per second).

Eurogamerwhich relays the information, recalls thatAvowed will also be playable in third person, something the art director doesn’t mention in the interview. While it’s true that 60 fps isn’t a requirement for a single-player game, the increased fluidity is still more appreciable for a game with a first-person camera.

However, Obisidian evokes a mode well Performanceswhich is “not the priority” of the studio at this stage of development. In short, Avowed should definitely get its update to increase the framerate on Xbox Series X|S in the futureas Starfield last May. And, as always, a stable 30 fps is better than a framerate which yo-yos between 60 and 45 fps, regardless of the camera. On PC, the framerate ofAvowed will obviously be at 60 fps, or even higher if your machine allows it.

The game’s release date is set for February 18, 2025. on PC and Xbox Series X|S, as well as in the Game Pass. The subscription Ultimate for three months is available against €44.99 on Amazon.
