Awesome camera: Xiaomi tries what Sony cell phone can’t do – GIGA Insights

At the Xiaomi event a week ago, a lot was presented, just no new smartphones. This will apparently be made up for in the coming week. You can find out what we can expect from the Xiaomi 12 Ultra and what else happened this week in this issue of GIGA Insights.

The topics of the week at a glance:

Xiaomi secures Sony giant sensor

The launch of the Xiaomi 12s series is imminent. The Xiaomi 12s Ultra should be particularly exciting. As Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun announced in a tweet that has since been deleted, the Ultra uses the new Sony IMX989 camera sensor with a size of one inch. Sony itself had already installed a sensor of the same size in the Xperia Pro-I, but the photo quality fell short of expectations.

In the video we explain what the new sensor could mean for the photos of Xiaomi’s new flagship smartphone.

More about smartphone cameras:

Samsung buys display developer

The South Korean company has reportedly bought the Baden-Württemberg company “Cynora”. However, only the company’s technology was said to have been bought during the takeover – the 120 employees were made redundant. Cynora has specialized in the development of new OLED technology that is said to be particularly energy-efficient.

HTC is back with a new smartphone

HTC’s smartphone division has gone quiet. That changed abruptly this week. With the HTC Desire 22 Pro, the smartphone manufacturer wants to build on old successes again. The smartphone is said to be optimized primarily for VR use with the HTC Vive, the smartphone and a corresponding bundle with a VR headset are already available for pre-order in the HTC Great Britain online shop.

MacBook Pro 13″ (2022): What is the reason for the poor SSD performance?

A few weeks ago we calculated that the new MacBook Air should really not be worthwhile for most people compared to its predecessor. Now the new MacBook Pro (13 inch, M2, 2022) may have become less exciting for some. As initial tests have shown, the memory of the entry-level model is only half as fast as the previous version from 2020. We explain why in the video.
