DNA tests carried out in a large hospital revealed that there had been an exchange between two infants after their passage in the nursery.

A mum had her baby DNA tested after giving birth at a major hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria. The doubt imposed itself on the young woman when she noticed the little resemblance between her baby and her as well as her companion. The DNA test results confirmed her doubts: her baby is not her biological child. The baby she’s been caring for since she gave birth isn’t biologically hers. According to bTV*, the public prosecutor’s office in Sofia decided to open an investigation and after contacting the second mother, she accepted the DNA test.

story review, the two babies were indeed exchanged during their visit to the nursery. This passage is quasi-compulsory and the parents cannot do anything against it. In Bulgaria, according to Maria Petrova, a lawyer specializing in medical law interviewed by bTV, fathers must pay additional costs to attend childbirth.

Babies switched at the hospital

In principle, to avoid this kind of problem, the mother and the baby wear a bracelet with a number. However, for this birth, the bracelets of the mothers were exchanged unlike that of the babies. The two mothers know that their babies have been exchanged, but for the moment no restitution is planned.

The babies will remain at least until the end of the investigation with their legal parents. The mother who heard the news after agreeing to carry out the DNA test requested for her baby spoke in the Bulgarian media and does not intend to exchange her child again: “My child is fine, I will fight until the end in court.”
