“Babybel”, former partner of Jeremstar, convicted of sexual assault on a minor

Pascal Cardonna, 55, an anonymous radio executive, rose to prominence under the pseudonym “Babybel” playing supporting roles in viral Jeremstar videos. In early 2018, he was accused of inviting minors to participate in parties at his home where alcohol was flowing freely.

“Babybel”, radio man who formed a duet with Jeremstar, a star of social networks in France, was sentenced Tuesday in Nîmes to 2 years imprisonment, including 18 months suspended, for “sexual assault on a minor”. Pascal Cardonna, 55, until then an anonymous radio executive, rose to prominence under the pseudonym “Babybel” by playing supporting roles in viral videos of Jeremstar, Jeremy Gisclon, whose real name is Jeremy Gisclon. The latter had made himself known by publishing at a frantic pace information on reality TV and extracts of his life on Snapchat which made him the most followed French on this social network. He had also joined the team of chroniclers of Thierry Ardisson.

In early 2018, Pascal Cardonna was accused of having invited minors to participate in parties at his home where alcohol was flowing freely. The case had erupted on the sidelines of a settling of scores that had agitated social networks, during which a “sex-tape” of Jeremstar had been broadcast. Jeremstar was not worried but Pascal Cardonna was referred to the criminal court of Nîmes for “corruption of a minor”, “direct provocation of a minor to excessive alcohol consumption”, “sexual assault on a 15-year-old minor” and “recourse to the prostitution of a minor”. Facts that he has always denied, qualifying his accusers as “fabricators”.

The young people came to meet their idol Jeremstar and found themselves in a real ambush

But for Stéphane Bertrand, the deputy prosecutor of Nîmes, “Babybel” made good “use of his friendship with Jeremstar” to “take minors in his clutches”. “The young people came to meet their idol Jeremstar and found themselves in a real ambush,” he told the audience. “There has never been orgies, alcohol, drugs, sex, during these evenings,” pleaded Pascal Cardonna’s lawyer, Me Christophe Dubourd. For him, the file was “polluted by text messages, awkward and schoolboy SMS”, although often with a sexual connotation, sent by his client. Pascal Cardonna will have to perform with an electronic bracelet the six months to which he has been sentenced and he is prohibited from approaching minors during the 18 months of his probationary suspension. He was also entered in the sex offender register.
