No Caesar for Bac Nord at the end of the ceremony? The French film which was a hit at the box office in 2021 was finally offered a reward … from high school students!

For 3 years, a César has been awarded, a few days after the ceremony, by an electorate of 1,866 final year students from 84 general, technological and vocational high school classes, located throughout mainland France, England and Mayotte, chosen by the Ministry of National Education and Youth. And so it was Bac Nord that received the most votes.

César 2022: Lost Illusions and Annette dominate, BAC Nord big loser

It should be noted that, like the vote of the members of the Academy, it took place between Tuesday February 1 and Friday February 25, 2022 at 4 p.m., thus avoiding any possible influence between the two electoral bodies. The films that could be awarded were the same as those in the best film category of the official ceremony.

The César des Lycéens was created in 2019 on the initiative of Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports, and the Académie des César, with the CNC (National Center for Cinema and animated image), the FNCF (National Federation of French Cinemas) and the Entraide du Cinéma et des Spectacles.

In the past, the César for high school students has already rewarded three French feature films: Until the custody of Xavier Legrand in 2019, Hors Normes by Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache in 2020, and finally, Adieu les cons by Albert Dupontel in 2021.

The presentation of the César des Lycéens will take place on Monday March 7, at the Grand Amphithéâtre de la Sorbonne, during a meeting-debate with more than 400 high school students who took part in the vote, in the presence of the winner, the Minister of National Education and Youth and the President of the Académie des César.

Lost Illusions, Annette… Where to see the 2022 César award-winning films?

For the record, the plot of Bac Nord begins in the northern districts of Marseille in 2012, in an area with the highest crime rate in France. Driven by its hierarchy, the BAC Nord, a field brigade, constantly seeks to improve its results. In a high-risk area, the cops adapt their methods, sometimes crossing the yellow line. Until the day the justice system turns against them…

The film is available on VOD, DVD and on CANAL+ and myCANAL.
