back in the green for Agirc-Arrco in 2021

The supplementary pension plan for executives and private sector employees Agirc-Arrco announced Thursday a surplus of 2.6 billion euros for the year 2021, after a heavy loss the previous year which led it to plan the last increase pensions.

The crisis is erased for the large pension fund managed by the unions and the employers. The accounts are good even congratulated its president Didier Weckner (Medef) from the outset, during a press conference.

Benefiting from the exceptional recovery of the economy, its receipts rebounded by more than 10%, to 88.3 billion euros, while its expenditure only increased by 1.1% to 86.3 billion, specifies Agirc-Arrco in a press release That is a technical profit of 2 billion euros, to which are added 600 million in financial gains, thanks to the proceeds of its reserves, the value of which has increased in one year from 62 to 68 billion at the end of 2021.

A value however fell back to 65 billion on March 11, in the bearish wake of the stock markets, affected by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. However, there is no short-term risk for the regime because our reserves are a shock absorber, assured Mr. Weckner.

No pension boost

This return to good fortune will not, however, result in a boost to pensions, revalued by only 1% in November, when inflation rose to 1.6% in 2021 – which will give rise to an automatic catch-up of 0, 1% on the next increase.

In the absence of a stable forecast for 2022, the time for discussion will come later, declared the vice-president (CFDT) Brigitte Pisa, specifying that the deadline remained fixed at the end of the year.

In the meantime, the Agirc-Arrco pot will be able to fuel the debate on a possible pension reform, relaunched by the president-candidate Emmanuel Macron, who wishes to push back the legal age of departure from 62 to 65 years. Especially since the retirement branch of the Scu has returned to a level close to balance, with a deficit of 2.6 billion last year.
