Bad surprise for the LEP, expired restaurant vouchers… The 5 money news of the week

A court decision unfavorable to Livret A, incredible costs to transfer your LEP, restaurant vouchers soon to expire… Here is the recap of the 5 news of the week for your money.

The article to read of the week

Ciclade, do you know? We are not talking here about the Greek archipelago in the south of the Aegean Sea, but about the web platform which allows you to find money forgotten in banks. Reminder: after a certain time, the sums placed in a bank account (current or savings), but also in a life insurance or employee savings contract, are transferred to the Caisse des Dépôts, which is responsible for keeping them warm while waiting for the owner or his beneficiaries to come forward.

We are talking here about 7 billion euros, spread across 620,000 accounts, according to 2023 figures revealed exclusively by MoneyVox! Do you want to check that there isn’t an account somewhere that belongs to you? Here is everything there is to know about the Ciclade platform.

Court decision of the week

Among Ciclade’s forgotten accounts are a large number of Livrets A.Logique, since this is the preferred investment of the French (55 million accounts opened). Last summer, a law professor contacted the Council of State to challenge the freezing of the Livret A rate at 3% until January 2025.

An executive choice that will cost many French people hundreds of euros. This week, the Council of State delivered its verdict. And it is not necessarily the one we expected.

Investigation of the week

For a little over a year, the Livret A has had a new competitor: the Popular Savings Booklet! Long in the shadows, the LEP is getting a second lease of life thanks to an unbeatable rate (5% currently) and a payment ceiling raised to 10,000 euros.

It has another advantage: unlike the Livret A, you can transfer it when you change banks, which avoids losing interest. This transfer, however, comes at a cost, and it is often exorbitant, as we discovered this week.

Tip of the week

The 2023 restaurant vouchers are coming to an end. From March 1st, those you acquired last year will no longer be valid. Don’t panic: they can be transferred to your 2024 balance so you don’t lose them.

If you have a card with your restaurant vouchers on it, you probably don’t need to do anything. On the other hand, if your employer still distributes paper vouchers, here is the procedure to follow without delay.

The trap of the week

A small grain of sand can deprive you of aid dedicated to energy renovation granted via MaPrimeRénov’. Testimonies are multiplying about the difficulties in receiving the promised aid. Here is the trap to avoid.
