BAE Systems will supply the detection system for the THAAD interceptor missile – 08/17/2022 at 11:14

(AOF) – BAE Systems has been awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin to design and manufacture a next-generation infrared detection device for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor missile. The THAAD detection system helps protect the United States and its global allies against ballistic missiles, especially high-velocity missiles.

“THAAD is a very effective system for mitigating high-velocity missile threats and we are making it more capable,” said Greg Procopio, director of precision guidance and sensing solutions at BAE Systems.

Guided by infrared technology from BAE Systems, THAAD interceptors engage ballistic missiles and destroy warheads with kinetic force in or out of the atmosphere.

BAE Systems’ work on THAAD infrared technology is conducted at the company’s facilities in Endicott, New York, Huntsville, Alabama and Nashua, New Hampshire.
