The BAFTA TV Awards 2021 ended in a debacle for “The Crown”: The highly acclaimed series came out empty-handed in all ten nominated categories.

“The Crown” entered ten categories at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards last Sunday (June 6th). The series around the British royal family could not win any of the prizes. Instead, “Save Me Too” was awarded the “Best Drama Series” award; the big winner of the award ceremony was the mini-series “Small Ax” with a total of six prizes (out of a total of 15 nominations).

“Normal People” star Paul Mescal (25) triumphed among the main actors, including Josh O’Connor (31), who plays the young Prince Charles (72) in “The Crown”, was left behind. Among the leading actresses, the award went to Michaela Coel (33) for “I May Destroy You”. The BBC One production was also named “Best Miniseries”.

“The Crown” stars Tobias Menzies (47, Prince Philip) and Helena Bonham Carter (55, Princess Margaret) were also unlucky with the supporting cast. In the men’s category, the BAFTA TV Award went to Malachi Kirby (31) for “Small Ax”, and in the women’s category, Rakie Ayola (53) was happy for “Anthony”. Other categories in which it was not enough for “The Crown” this time included costume, make-up and hair design, special effects and original music.
