Baking sustainably: This is how it works with the ecological bakery!

Whether cake, bread or pizza: there are many opportunities to swing the rolling pin. But how does sustainable baking work – and what does that actually include? Quite simply: We place great emphasis on organic quality in the ingredients and make sure that our kitchen gadgets for baking are also made of pollutant-free materials.

Sustainable tools for baking

If you want to bake sustainably, you should make sure that the baking aids for kneading and stirring are durable and recyclable. For example, whisks and dough scrapers made of stainless steel are long services – a material that is dishwasher-safe and durable. When choosing a rolling pin, make sure that the wood comes from sustainable forestry, beech wood is usually a suitable choice.

Baking brushes should also be made of organic wood or stainless steel with silicone bristles. But be careful: silicone is not recyclable per se, so pay attention to quality here. If you want to be exact, you can even buy baking paper and muffin cases made from recyclable material – the whole thing is called unbleached FSC-certified paper.

Basic ingredients for the ecological bakery

Sustainable baking naturally also includes sustainable ingredients. Organic raw sugar differs from commercial cane sugar not only in the absence of the “r”, but also comes from controlled organic cultivation. As a basis, you can use normal organic wholemeal flour, which saturates longer and has more healthy nutrients. Nowadays, fruit, nuts, eggs and milk can easily be obtained from organic shops or from a farmer you trust.

And also with spices you can exercise caution by paying attention to good quality and the organic origin. For example, cinnamon and vanilla only thrive in tropical countries. Prefers fair trade spices to support labor and production conditions in the country.

Store and serve in an environmentally friendly manner

You are certainly aware that cookies or bread are stored cool and closed so that they stay fresh longer. But what are the baked goods actually sealed in? Storage jars made of bioplastic or stainless steel are the best choice here, they contain no plasticizers and are recyclable.
