Balatro: the phenomenon game disappears from the eShop and other stores, why?

In recent days, you must have heard about Balatro, a card game roguelike who bends the rules of poker. A title developed by LocalThunk and edited by Playstack profitable 60 minutes after its launch, which generated more than a million dollars in revenue in just a few hours and which sold 250,000 copies in three days.

Balatro was launched on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, but quickly, it disappeared from certain stores, notably from theeShop. Hard blow for the studios and the players who had not yet cracked, but there is a reason. Playstack explained in a statement that Balatro was originally PEGI 3+a classification obtained after the editor has completed the usual questionnaire, but the Pan European Game Information placed his hands on the game and judged that it was a money game incorporating the codes of poker and betting. Result, Balatro passed PEGI 18+which automatically removed it from some stores as a security measure.

Playstack explains that the game does not encourage betting, thatit was developed by a person deeply against betting and that the mechanics of gameplay do not take up those of poker, only diverting them. The editor adds that the PEGI 3+ was obtained last October and that he had already discussed the subject of betting with the organization at the time, hence the general surprise.

After these setbacks, things begin to return to order, Playstack keeps players informed via X/Twitter regularly. Balatro is now available on SteamPS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S worldwidebut only the American continent is entitled to the Switch version, players in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan will still have to wait, everything should be back to normal this week.
