The German federal government would like to introduce an electricity price brake that covers the basic consumption of households and caps the price per kWh. Will this make mini solar systems superfluous? Exactly the opposite is the case if you look at the currently known information.

As part of the third relief package, the traffic light coalition decided on an electricity price brake, the details of which are not yet known. An example calculation has shed some light on the matter, but many questions remain unanswered. Anyone who owns a ready-to-plug-in mini solar system already ensures that the energy consumption is partly generated by renewable energies and the electricity bill is reduced. But is the operation still worthwhile after the introduction of the electricity price brake?
In fact, after the introduction of the electricity price brake, a balcony power plant will be even more worthwhile than it already is. According to current information, only the 75 percent of the basic consumption of single and family households is covered will. The price for electricity is therefore limited up to a certain number of kWh. Energy companies can charge any price for anything above that. In order to avoid the risk of a price explosion above basic consumption, people are forced to save energy.
