Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently the victim of censorship, and it impacts a very specific version of the RPG. The players may have their say on the matter.
We no longer really need to introduce the phenomenon Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s one of the best RPGs of this year, and it went so far as to win the title of Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2023. So yes, it’s a great production, but it’s not quite the same for all the players. You will quickly understand why, but currently, part of the community is experiencing a big difference in their versions of the game compared to others. There is censorship, and it’s quite ridiculous.
Baldur’s Gate 3 and nudity, a long love story
During the adventure, it may happen that we see each other naked. We think in particular of the very beginning, when we are busy shaping our protagonist. If that’s not really your thing, don’t panic, it’s possible to deactivate the option. If you do this, leaves will hide your private parts, and you will not be rushed. That said, this option has a particularity in the Japanese version of Baldur’s Gate 3: it cannot be deactivated in any way.
In short, this means that we cannot see our character naked in the Japanese version of the game. It is strictly impossible to activate nudity. Normally, you just have to go to the Accessibility menu and make your decision. Here, the choice is made for you, and it is automatically disabled. Spike Chunsoft was responsible for this edition of Baldur’s Gate 3, and indeed, the classification that was received by the title prevents it from showing these places of the body. But that’s not all.
Indeed, the Japanese version has another specificity. You are surely aware that we can have intimate relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3. Concretely, we have the opportunity to be “closer” to each companion we meet throughout the story. Well, here the nudity is blocked in some cutscenes. Sometimes there is not even access to them. Well, it goes without saying that mods will surely emerge to get around this. It remains to be seen when.
New species on the approach
One thing is certain, Baldur’s Gate 3 is not about to give up. New features are to be expected, such as perhaps the addition of new species. It was Adam Smith, writing director at Larian Studios, who said he was not against the idea during a stream on Twitch: “ we haven’t stopped updating the game. We will continue to do so […] We don’t have specific plans for new breeds at the moment, but we’re not saying no. “.
When we see the richness of the different species of Dungeons and Dragons, we can only imagine the possibilities available to the company. As a reminder, when Baldur’s Gate 3 came out of early access, two races were added: dragonborns and half-orcs. For some players, we could soon be dealing with goblins and aasimars. Or the aarakocra, winged birdmen, and the yuan-ti. There’s a choice, and we can’t wait to see what the studio has to offer.
