Balthazar on TF1: has a return of Hélène de Fougerolles been considered? The creator of the series responds

While TF1 is broadcasting the penultimate episode of season 5 of “Balthazar” this Thursday, February 15, we now know that Hélène de Fougerolles will not resume her role in this final batch. But was his return considered by the authors?

Broadcast every Thursday on TF1, the fifth and final season of Balthazar will end in a week at the end of a final episode in apotheosis not to be missed, which reserves many shocking moments for fans of the detective series led by Tomer Sisley. .

If this final episode of Balthazar – which almost continued for a time without the star of the series – will offer a real conclusion to Raphaël and Camille (Constance Labbé), and will see Alexandre return one last time, the evil brother of the hero, Hélène Bach will not be there.

Leaving at the end of the third season in 2020, Hélène de Fougerolles did not resume her role as a cop during this last lap. And has not even been contacted by the production with a view to a possible return, as she recently told us in an interview.

“I was not offered it at all. I think it would have been weird to come back after two years”told our microphone the actress who will soon succeed Natacha Lindinger in the title role of the series Sam. “The question did not arise, even if I remain in contact with the production with which I continue to collaborate on other projects, such as the television film Christmas… and more if you like. I don’t think there was any reason to bring my character back. The show moved on, they did two seasons without me.”.

A feeling of a closed chapter shared by Clothilde Jamin, the creator, producer and collection director of Balthazar. Even if she admits that the idea of bringing back the character of Hélène Bach, gone to live in Polynesia with her children, has all the same furtively crossed the minds of the screenwriters.

“Hélène is part of Balthazar’s past”

“Very sincerely, it was probably mentioned at some point, but the debate was quickly closed”says Clothilde Jamin. “The idea was really to offer the characters a future, and not necessarily to look to the past. And, for us, Hélène is part of Balthazar’s past. And bringing her back would have attracted the character of Balthazar in a past that no longer made sense, in which he had advanced much less compared to himself”.

“We know how much the public loves Hélène. And how much we love her too. Bringing her back would have made a mess of a mess in a new situation that works. Maybe we would have done it if we had had an extra season. But as it stands, for this last season, it didn’t make sense in our opinion.”.

The idea, with this fifth batch of episodes which comes to close the adventure started in 2018, was rather to look to the future of the hero embodied by Tomer Sisley. A future which, according to Clothilde Jamin, passes through three female characters in the series.

“Today, there are three characters who symbolize the future for Balthazar. There is obviously Camille, his lifelong friend, who jostles him in his certainties”explains the creator of the series.

“There is Olivia Vésinet (Caterina Murino) also, who is the only woman who, for us, has never needed Balthazar. And that’s why it’s maybe with her that he’ll be happy. Balthazar is someone quite egocentric, very childish, and at the same time extremely brilliant. And Olivia, if she chooses Balthazar, it’s only for the positive. We liked it as an idea. She is an accomplished woman in every way. If they get together, it will be a very mature relationship.”.

As for the last character who represents the future and all the possibilities for Raphaël Balthazar, it is obviously Alice, his daughter, brought into the world in prison by Maya. “The last person is little Alice. Her baby. That’s also Balthazar’s future”.

A future that will obviously be at the center of the series finale, which will be broadcast on Thursday February 23 at 9:10 p.m. on TF1.
