Broadcast tonight on TF1, the first episode of season 5 of “Balthazar” welcomes Paloma from Drag Race France and sees Raphaël Balthazar try his hand at the art of drag during a scene. A pride for Tomer Sisley.

To the delight of fans of the detective series, Balthazar made his big comeback this evening on TF1 for a fifth and final season which, judging by its first episode broadcast this Thursday at 9:10 p.m., promises to be caustic and full of surprises.

Accused of murder and trapped by his brother Alexandre in the finale of season 4 proposed last year on the front page, Raphaël Balthazar (Tomer Sisley) ended up taking refuge in a cabaret where he was discovered disguised as a drag queen.

When the fifth and final season of the series begins, the most famous lawyer on the small screen is hiding away from Paris, in Marrakech, where he has made a new friend: Paloma, played by the real Paloma from Drag Race France, credited in the credits under the name of Hugo Bardin, the actor who hides behind the icon of the French tv show slash.

The drag universe in the spotlight in season 5 of Balthazar

Later in the Season 5 premiere, Balthazar is forced to return to Paris to help Camille (Constance Labbé) solve a tricky case. And it is for the purposes of this investigation that Raphaël will have the idea of also transforming himself into a drag queen in order to enter the police station incognito and be able to question a key witness.

A surprising scene which is the pride of Tomer Sisley, as told to us in an interview by the star of Balthazar, who decided to put an end to the series after five years of success.

“I wanted to put the world of drag forward in Balthazar. It was a wish on my part for a long time, I fought a lot, I begged the production a bit, and I’m very proud that season 5 ultimately put drag in the spotlight”told us the star of the series.

Balthazar dresses up as a drag queen for a sequence.

“When you are lucky enough to have the success that you have had with this series, on a channel like TF1, you also have a duty to pay attention to the messages and values that you transmit. And I find that drag is an extraordinary art, particularly modern, which influences the world of fashion, much more than you might think”.

“So I wanted drag queens to have their place in Balthazar, in prime time. That’s why season 4 ends with Balthazar as a drag queen in a cabaret and season 5 picks up with Balthazar as a drag queen”continues Tomer Sisley, who did not skimp on the preparation to best represent the art of drag through his character.

“I was fitted with a prosthesis for my hips and for my buttocks, I think it shows on the screen (laughs). I think that in all, with the make-up and the dressing, my transformation took 4 hours or 4h30 of preparation. But it was important. It had to be impressive and not be ridiculous”.

Fortunately, Tomer Sisley was able to count on the help and support of Hugo Bardin, alias Paloma, with whom he shared several scenes during season 5 and who we will therefore find in the next episodes.

“We are lucky to have Paloma with us, who plays Balthazar’s friend and babysitter in a few scenes”says Tomer Sisley, before adding: “I loved playing with Hugo, this character is great, this actor too. And we can say that we had Paloma in the series before the success of Drag Race France since we shot season 5 there is already a few months. It’s a bit of pride too (laughs)”.
