(Boursier.com) — Balyo announced the successful installation and handover of the world’s tallest self-contained VNA carts at Singapore Storage & Warehouse (SSW) logistics warehouses in Singapore. With a lifting height of 16.8 meters, it is the first site in the world to operate autonomously at such a height using VNA robots. Balyo successfully handed over four stand-alone VNAs to SSW in conjunction with Linde Material Handling. These robots handle pallets weighing up to 750 kg.

In the spirit of innovation, SSW wanted to convert the manually operated VNAs at its Singapore site into autonomous robots. The main challenge on this site was height, not volume. If picking up/depositing pallets longer than 16 meters autonomously was previously difficult to conceive, Linde Material Handling Singapore, in collaboration with Balyo, has succeeded in implementing its new autonomous model “Very Narrow Aisles” (VNA) .

Balyo believes this opens up a new application segment for its partners and customers who have until now been limited to manual operations or less flexible Fully Automated Warehouses (ASRS). Given space constraints and a tight labor market, as is the case in Singapore, the UK and Japan, many warehouses are indeed operating at such heights.
