La France and its armies are in a bad position in Mali. Not that the fate of arms is especially unfavorable to them. French soldiers have certainly not managed, nine years after the start of Operation Serval in January 2013 and 53 lives lost later, to stop or even contain the jihadist push. After the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands – but the true figure remains secret – of jihadist cadres and young fighters, the groups remain. They even seem able to mobilize ever more militants. The French government now seems disoriented by the latest political developments in the Malian situation. The suspicious putschists who took power by force in August 2020 are all the less pleasing to Paris since they have renewed…
