How this weird cocktail is supposed to help your plants

The skin of your bananas probably ends up in the trash. However, there is one way that the unpopular pot can have a practical use – and that is for your plants.

The inside of a banana is an excellent supplier of vitamins. But also calcium, potassium or magnesium. On the other hand, most people just strip off the outside and dispose of it directly. There are also many substances on the shell that are ideal for a self-created fertilizer, including those already mentioned above. Many household tips take multiple steps and require you to buy some extra ingredients to make them work. But not with this banana water hack.

You need:

  • banana peel
  • Water
  • A mason jar with a lid

How it works:

Best you use Organic Bananas for this plant tip, so that any toxins do not get into the self-created fertilizer. There may be a slight odor during production. However, this should evaporate after the agent has been poured onto the plants. We explain how to use it in the last section.

  1. Step 1: Peel the banana and eat the inside.
  2. Cut the banana peel into small pieces and place in a mason jar, pressing down lightly.
  3. Pour the water under the rim to cover the shells.
  4. Cap the jar and place in a cool, dark room.
  5. Wait two to three weeks and use the banana fertilizer. The banana skin should be black and the water should be dark.

You can too faster method choose and only leave the banana water for two to three days. Then you put everything in a saucepan and let the mixture simmer for 30 to 45 minutes and then cool completely. In this way, the fertilizer is ready much more quickly and it is also assumed that the nutrients are released into the water even better with this variant.

How to use banana water

Strain the banana skins out of the water and pour this fertilizer with additional water into a watering can. You can now use the contents for your plants, which receive additional nutrients from the banana water mixture. You can compost the remaining banana peels from the water and use the compost again for your plants (in the apartment or in the garden).

It should even faster go? OK! Add 100 grams of banana peel and one liter of water to a saucepan, bring everything to the boil and leave the brew overnight. The next day you can pour this product over your plants in a ratio of 1:5 with water.
