The emergency services were presented with a picture of the devastation when they entered the apartment on the first floor of a six-party house in Baumgarten with heavy respiratory protection. Broken windows, broken door frames, torn plasterboard, destroyed balcony – as if by a miracle, the resident survived the gas explosion, to which the voluntary fire brigades of Mattersburg, Schattendorf and Baumgarten were called on Monday at 11:33 p.m. At the same time, an ambulance and a first responder, two ambulances and the police arrived – all reporting the smell of gas that was still wafting from the apartment.
