Bank card, cash withdrawal… Here are the 8 services of your bank whose prices are increasing

Provision of the bank card, transfer, cash withdrawal from an ATM other than that of your bank… The Bank Rates Observatory draws up a list of 8 services whose cost is increasing.

It’s time for the final assessment of changes in banking rates. In its study published this Wednesday, the Bank Tariff Observatory (OTB) of the Banque de France has just published its study on changes in tariff lines as of January 5, 2024, based on tariff information documents (DIT) of 100 establishments.

And after having studied the brochures of 93 network banks and 7 online banks, the authors of this survey noted that a large majority of the banking rates that it closely follows are increasing in 2024, after a year 2023 marked by relative stability of prices with the implementation of the shield on bank charges.

Two tariff lines whose price is falling

Let’s start with the good news. The annual rate of two services is decreasing:

Subscription of products offering alerts on the account situation by SMS saw its annual flat-rate cost drop by 9.32%, from 16.52 to 14.98 euros. Between December 31, 2023 and January 5, 2024, 6 establishments went free even if at the same time 12 establishments increased their prices.

-Other lower prices: subscribing to remote banking services (internet, landline, SMS, etc.). This anachronistic tariff line in the digital age is still billed by 5 establishments while 95 establishments, including the 7 online banks, practice it free of charge. The average annual price in banks which charge their customers for this service fell by 0.13 euros from 1.63 euros to 1.50 euros (- 7.96%). Note that one establishment increased its rate by 3.99% to 53.16 euros per year! This is the Banque de Savoie according to our tariff statement.

8 tariff lines on the rise

Bad news, however, for 8 tariff lines which increase up to + 3.70%.

-The unit cost of the intervention commission, invoiced when a customer carries out a debit transaction putting their account in the red, increased by 0.13%. This increase in the average price is due to the increase in the price of a single establishment going from 6.90 euros to 7.90 euros, an increase of 1 euro (+ 14.49%).

The average price of intervention commissions per unit thus increased from 7.51 euros to 7.52 euros. In detail, 6 of the 7 online banks do not charge intervention commissions. 92 establishments are positioned on the legal ceiling of 8 euros and 2 others apply a rate of 7.75 euros and 7.90 euros respectively.

-Regarding removal of displaced species in a euro zone ATM from another establishment with an international payment card, the price increase is 0.99%.

Providing a debit card (systematic authorization payment card) increased by 1.67% (0.51 euros). The provision of a debit card (immediate debit international payment card) increases by 1.85% from 43.33 euros to 44.13 euros per year. Note that 5 banks including 4 online banks offer this card free of charge.

-Regarding the occasional transfer in agency, the price is up 1.89% from 4.23 euros to 4.31 euros.

Providing a debit card (international debit debit card) is increasing by 1.90% from 43.21 euros to 44.03 euros per year.

-The increase is even more marked for account maintenance fees (active): +3.01%.

-The prize goes to costs of setting up a SEPA direct debit mandate (+3.70%). This increase in the average rate is due to the increase in the rate of a single banking establishment, this service being provided free of charge in almost all banking establishments.
