In the film, Barbie lives a perfect life in a perfect world. But when she begins to have dark thoughts, she finds herself forced to go to the Real World to find the cause of her existential crisis.

Cool_92 is a little more measured and regrets that the real world is not more realistic and that the film relies a little too much on the character of Ken.

“A well twisted and meta satirical film that mixes many themes such as feminism, the place of women in today’s societies and patriarchy. It often fires live ammunition in a very caustic way. The cast is great, especially Ken Gosling who steals the show a bit from Margot Barbie. There are also some flaws, it remains a cheeky Truman Show sub, which fails to portray the real world effectively, humans aren’t very interesting. Besides, neither the Barbies in the end, because the film is mainly based on the Kens.”
Some, on the other hand, consider the film too political and feminist “Bof, bof… Political and feminist film. Not really childish. Despite the jokes. We laugh sometimes. Not enough. This film is not made for entertainment but to pass on a message that opens up to reflection… or not. I almost gave up at times, and I got bored at times too.”
Finally, others regret that Barbie is too complicated to understand for young audiences: “Difficult to reach the youngest in terms of understanding, Barbie completely misses its subject and what was expected in terms of quirky and wacky scenes.”
