In the film, Barbie lives a perfect life in a perfect world. But when she begins to have dark thoughts, she finds herself forced to go to the Real World to find the cause of her existential crisis.

For Internet user Allce025 “Greta Gerwing has succeeded in delivering a real feminist and humanist message on today’s world through this famous doll”. The user adds : “Margot Robbie embodies Barbie with pep and delicacy but Ryan Gosling would almost steal the show as her hilarious role reveals very touching weaknesses. Between Barbieland and the Real World, these two places will merge to lead to a real reflection on the place women and men in society, as well as their personal fulfillment. A real spectacle tinged with pink and sunny colors, crazy scenes, song and choreography by the Kens that will remain in the memory, a subtle but powerful message, Barbie exceeds our expectations to deliver a real colorful and above all very intelligent entertainment.”

Lolallociné is of the same opinion and explains “Brilliant in terms of comedy (the room was full we laughed a lot) but also in terms of philosophy. Thanks to Greta Gerwig for one more monologue on the place of women thank you thank you thank you MY QUEEN.”

For others it is “a real bomb” and D'”an admirably mastered and marvelously produced satire that manages to make us laugh and smile as much as it puts it into perspective.”

Cool_92 is a little more measured and regrets that the real world is not more realistic and that the film relies a little too much on the character of Ken.

Barbie

A well twisted and meta satirical film that mixes many themes such as feminism, the place of women in today’s societies and patriarchy. It often fires live ammunition in a very caustic way. The cast is great, especially Ken Gosling who steals the show a bit from Margot Barbie. There are also some flaws, it remains a cheeky Truman Show sub, which fails to portray the real world effectively, humans aren’t very interesting. Besides, neither the Barbies in the end, because the film is mainly based on the Kens.”

Some, on the other hand, consider the film too political and feminist “Bof, bof… Political and feminist film. Not really childish. Despite the jokes. We laugh sometimes. Not enough. This film is not made for entertainment but to pass on a message that opens up to reflection… or not. I almost gave up at times, and I got bored at times too.”

Finally, others regret that Barbie is too complicated to understand for young audiences: “Difficult to reach the youngest in terms of understanding, Barbie completely misses its subject and what was expected in terms of quirky and wacky scenes.”

But the best is still to make up your own mind! Barbie is currently to be seen in your dark rooms.
