Barbie: soon unpublished images in the cinema?

On track to be the biggest global blockbuster of 2023, “Barbie” will be released in IMAX theaters across the United States on September 22. With never-before-seen footage after the credits.

Last weekend, Barbie was still playing on 4,000 screens in the United States, and its journey seems far from over. Even if the release on VOD, scheduled for September 5 across the Atlantic, risks slowing down its performance at the local box office, where it has just overtaken Super Mario Bros. to become the biggest hit of 2023.

But Greta Gerwig’s film will again create the event on September 22, the day of its release in IMAX theaters, monopolized by Oppenheimer when the two feature films had landed, at the same time, in world cinemas.

The idea will not only be to (re)visit Barbie Land on a bigger screen for a week: spectators will be able to discover new images, chosen by the director and co-screenwriter, after the end credits. Will these be deleted scenes? From a blooper? From the making-of of the song “I’m just Ken”, unveiled recently?

THIS BARBIE GOES TO FRANCE?

The press release relayed by Deadline don’t say it. And the French branch of Warner, contacted by us, was unable to answer us to specify whether France will be one of the few countries in the world in which this release will take place.

As in the United States, the feature film worn by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is still visible in our theaters, and on more than 900 prints. And this when it has just overtaken Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Empire, to afford the title of second biggest success of 2023, and is rapidly moving towards five million admissions.
