The Italian town can do more than just wine

Bardolino is not only able to inspire with its red wine. The small town on Lake Garda has a few more highlights in store.
Bardolino is best known for its very popular red wine of the same name. But the town on Lake Garda has even more to offer. Whether wine connoisseurs, bathers, spa guests, hiking and cycling fans, or just Italy lovers – Bardolino makes the hearts of many tourists beat faster.
A popular travel destination
At least since the 1950s, Lago di Garda has been one of the popular travel destinations for holidaymakers from all over Europe. With 370 square kilometers it is the largest lake in the country. Due to its location, the climate here is Mediterranean. Between March and May, temperatures reach 15 to 24 degrees Celsius – which makes the lake a popular holiday destination even in spring.
The Bardolino vineyards are also reflected in Lake Garda. The Bardolino, certainly one of the most famous wines of the Lake Garda area, is mainly made from the grape varieties Corvina Veronese and Rondinella. They give the wine its light ruby red color and convince with a light, fruity taste. To this day, various winegrowers produce the Bardolino – with different quality. The wine route on Lake Garda, the Strada del Vino, offers over 40 winegrowers over 70 kilometers who sell their wine directly at the farm.
On historical tracks
When it comes to the sights of Bardolino, the remains of the medieval walls and churches worth seeing are particularly striking. The neoclassical parish church of Santi Nicolò e Severo with a replica of the Lourdes grotto is located directly in the pedestrian zone. In the old town lies San Zeno from the 9th century. She welcomes visitors right at the entrance to Bardolino. On the other hand, there are magnificent villas with spacious parks from the time of the Veronese. The promenade at the port of Bardolino promises pure holiday feeling. Numerous restaurants, ice cream parlors and bars invite you to linger. The pedestrian zone with its many side streets makes shopping hearts beat faster.
A large selection of hotels with swimming pools, spas and wellness areas offer plenty of relaxation. The Aqualux Hotel Spa Suite & Terme Bardolino, for example, cannot be overlooked. On the east bank in the midst of vineyards and olive groves, the building, which was built primarily with wood and glass from an ecological point of view, lures with eight different pools and wellness treatments with natural cosmetic brands. The active ingredients are obtained from local organic products and grown in the immediate vicinity of Bardolino. Regional is also very important in the Evo Bardolino gourmet restaurant. Not only the hotel guests can let themselves be spoiled by the gourmet cuisine made from regional ingredients and Simone Gottardello’s own olive oil.
Nothing works without pizza and ice cream
If a pizza is simply part of a holiday in Italy, you should plan a visit to the Pizzeria Bardolino. Although it is not directly on the lake, a beautiful outdoor area and fair prices make up for it. Ice cream connoisseurs shouldn’t miss the Gelateria Cristallo – the supposedly best ice cream in town is served here in generous scoops.
If you have a bad conscience after feasting, simply slip on your hiking boots or jump on your bike. The Cammino del Bardolino meanders over 100 kilometers through vineyards and olive groves as well as small forests. The network of paths offers hiking and cycling tours for every taste. And if the longing for a good Bardolino is tormenting you again, you can always take a break at one of the numerous wineries – with tasting, of course.
